What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Hammond Plumbing & Heating in Kitchener always tells you about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it truly mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is optional and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Hammond Plumbing & Heating that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Hammond Plumbing & Heating focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only specific areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE test candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:
